Layton, Utah: door-to-door solicitor permit

• The answer: Yes — a certificate of registration from the city's licensing officer before any door-to-door solicitation (5.12.060), plus a city identification badge issued with it (5.12.110). A business that uses employees, contractors or agents to knock must have those solicitors get certificates (5.12.020). Registered solicitors need no other city license to solicit door to door, and their company needs none unless it sets up a place of business in the city (5.12.020).
• Where it comes from: The Layton City licensing officer, on the city's standard application form (5.12.070). The fee is on the city's Consolidated Fee Schedule, linked from the Business Licensing page.
• Fee: $35 for each solicitor, under Business license fees — Residential Solicitation (Door to Door Sales), in the Consolidated Fee Schedule effective July 1, 2026. The code points to that schedule for the fee (5.12.070).
• Hours you may knock: Not before 9:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m. Mountain Time, licensed or not, unless the resident gave express prior permission (5.12.190).
