• The answer: Yes — a peddler license from the city clerk, carried at all times while peddling (26-2(a)). A peddler includes anyone going house to house taking orders for goods or for services to be performed in the future (26-1). Licenses are nontransferable, and each rep needs one even when working for another licensee (26-9(b)).
• Where it comes from: The Novi City Clerk's Office, 45175 Ten Mile Road, on the clerk's own form (26-4(a)). The city's Soliciting Ordinance page says the ordinance itself is administered by the Police Department.
• Fee: The code leaves the fee to a council resolution (26-4(b)). The clerk's Peddler License Application (revised July 2026) asks for a $100 non-refundable application fee. The license runs 90 days (26-4(c)), so a rep working longer applies again.
• Hours you may knock: No peddling or soliciting after 9:00 p.m. or dusk, whichever is earlier, or before 9:00 a.m., prevailing time (26-10(a)).
