South Jordan, Utah: door-to-door solicitor permit

Partly read: the permit answer is sourced, but the fee or the hours could not be read from the city’s own pages. The clerk questions below cover the gap.

• The answer: No separate solicitor permit in the code — South Jordan's Solicitations chapter was repealed by Ord. 2006-20 and is marked reserved (Chapter 5.76). What remains is the general rule: it is unlawful to engage in business in the city without a city business license (5.04.020), and "business" includes rendering a service for compensation (5.04.010). The code does not say how a door-to-door crew from outside the city is licensed; confirm with Business Licensing.
• Where it comes from: South Jordan Business Licensing; the business license official picks the fee category for any business the fee schedule does not list (5.04.160).
• Fee: Not listed for door-to-door sales. The Business License Fees schedule effective July 1, 2026 has no solicitor or door-to-door line; its closest general lines are a Commercial General Business License at $338 new and a Mobile Non-Food Vendor License at $25, but which one applies is the license official's call (5.04.160).
• Hours you may knock: The South Jordan code sets no door-to-door knocking hours — none in Title 5 (Business Licenses and Regulations) or Title 9 (Public Peace, Morals and Welfare).
• What the rep carries: A licensee whose business is transient or mobile carries the license certificate on his or her person while working (5.04.070).
• What takes the time: No background check or processing time for door-to-door sales is published. The code does not let a business operate before the license is issued (5.04.020).
